As should be pretty fucking obvious…techno took a shit on me again. It was mostly my fault that it started, but I’m blaming shitty hardware as why I couldn’t recover it.
Turns out it was the processor that was shot on my bitch box. I tested it in techno to be sure. Should have been easy enough, pop it in…hit power…nadda, pop it back out and techno’s back in…reboot…KERNEL PANIC! I got ahold of a live cd and ran some misc tools from there…which was a blast let me tell you what. It would decide to just ignore random drives at random times…sometimes not reboot…other times come up fine…was a good time.
After a day of fighting with that, I decided to just reload it. Figured it wouldn’t take me that long to set it back up. Well, it wouldn’t create the raid drives….would go through the motions, then just not create them. I finally had to zero the superblocks on everything and start from the beginning. After that it installed -slow as hell-. It seemed to be working though…so I bolted the sides back on unhooked the cdrom drive and put it in the back room….wouldn’t boot. NON SYSTEM DISK ERROR! jfc. I hooked the cdrom drive back up (after much cussing) and it boots fine…wtf! I checked the cdrom drive, nope no disk. This made absolutly no sence at all. I think she ran for a nite then just dropped a hard drive. Didn’t see it at all, rebooted…nadda. Popped the side off, checked the connections…smacked everything I could reach with the screwdriver…rebooted, yup works fine.
I am so sick of duct taping together this old shit, reminds me of farming. I hate to throw alot of money at a new server, but there’s no way I’m patching together this pig for the next five years. I got ahold of a guy about an athlon for the bitch box so I can get that up and running. It’s around the same speed that I’m running in the server, that should be just fine for now.
