I’m kinda torn on things like this. On one hand I’m all for violent criminals being drug out and shot…but putting GPS on them is just one more step towards abusing GPS to control the population as a whole. It doesn’t prevent them from doing anything…and anyone determined enough will circumvent it….dunno, just not a fan I guess.
Saw spiderman 3 this weekend…it was awful. I am so very disappointed in this movie…it was handled in a very poor manor. The writing was awful, I never really felt like there was a connection between the characters at all. This movie should have focused on the rise of venom with a side plot of harry trying to avenge his father. The amnesia thing was campy and didn’t need to happen…it would have been -MUCH- more comicish and interesting if he’d faked the amnesia to suck Spiderman into his tightly woven web of deceit and revenge. Couple that in with the alien taking over spiderman…-THEN- have the split between spiderman and venom happen at the 1/2 way point of the movie….from there focus on venom/eddie tourchering the web head until the final confrontation at the end.
I don’t think harry should have been killed at the end. He should have joined spiderman to help mary jane then in true comic book fashion left at the end with an over the shoulder remark of “this changes nothing peter…”. The only only ONLY part of the whole story I feel was done well was peter’s transformation into a “bad ass”. He didn’t instantly become the object of desire for every hot chick he passed on the street, he wasn’t kicking everyone’s ass and riding a harley….no he was still a freekin nerd but had an arrogance about him. This part stayed true to comic book form in that it was amusing for us but added the needed effect of seeing how the alien was affecting him.
It’s so disappointing to me when people have such rich material from which to draw their stories and just can’t seem to make it click. They seemed to want to go for all the cgi they could get…and not focus on the story. The story lines have -always- been what has set spiderman apart from all other comic book heroes…he’s a hero with real problems. That was not sufficiently explored and the bad guys were done terribly. Two thumbs down. I will buy this movie to round out my collection…but I don’t think it will come out of the shrink wrap. Spiderman 2 was so well done and an actual improvement over the first in a way that is seldom seen in the movies today.
As a side note…if this past month has shown us anything it’s that when hollywood puts out good movies (or what are perceived as going to be good) the people will come in droves to the theaters. The decline in the box office take over the past few years has little if nothing to do with piracy or big home theater systems…it is totally due to shitty movies. God damn hollywood monkey asses expect the consumers to just hand over money without giving a shit about quality.
