Diablo III is “officially” announced.
Hopefully I don’t have to upgrade the PC.
jfc my upstream sucks. 15hrs to upload 3.1gig of data.
I’ve decided she’s going to move. The move will commence July 11th and hopefully be done sometime the 12th. It should be fairly quick to copy files over (except the pictures), then it’s a matter of waiting for the dns change to propagate. It looked to take about 12hrs for techno.com but allow 24-48 to be sure.
Currently, I have nothing using technohillbilly.net, all my entries are alias that point to a dynamic service. In the interest of time, I’m going to put an entry in for techno.net and let that propagate. From there, it should be fairly quick to add aliases. We’ll see I guess!
I’ll fire off an email with details when I have time to get everything together.
After my initial tests, I am about 90% certain I will be moving techno off of my private server to a hosting provider. I have been able to setup wordpress without issue and move the squirrelmail app and db’s over without too much hassle.
I have been successful in transitioning my own mailbox over to the new server without losing any messages. I expect to be able to do the same for users, but as always back up/print off any messages you’d rather not lose. I’ll give users about 5ish days worth of notice before I make the transition. Expect an email on some monday with the transition to take place the following Friday night/Saturday morning. It will take a little bit for the DNS to propigate, during which time I will be shutting down the mail server. Any messages not delivered to techno should bounce and be redelivered.
There will be virtually no difference for users of the web apps. Users of a mail client will have to change their server settings. All will be explained in the email before hand.
This transition will allow for more uptime, better bandwidth for users and myself at home, as well as a redundant data store for various files I have become concerned about losing. I will setup my home machine as a backup MX for technohillbilly.net so there will be even less of a chance of mail loss. When the transition is complete, technohillbilly.net will point to the webhost and technohillbilly.com will point to my home server. Users should have little to no reason to use *.com. The ftp for both will be handled by my home server.
I didn’t think a decision was suppose to come down until August.
There is one line in the article with which I take issue:
There were 143 gun-related murders in Washington last year, compared with 135 in 1976, when the handgun ban was enacted.
Is this suppose to point at the fact that the number of murders has gone up since the ban was inacted? It pretty misleading to people that just read over it and don’t put thought in to what has happened since ‘76. A more accurate assessment of gun related deaths is done on a per capita basis. Using those numbers, although it’s gone up a paltry 8 people…it’s most certainly come down based on the population as a whole.
In any case, it’s good to see the Judicial branch up holding the constitutional spirit. It is important for the people to have their own munitions. A state regulated militia backed by the fed is truly no militia for the people as originally intended.
