Idiots

Posted by Grand Poobah On April - 29 - 2009

There are lots of strange people in this world that want to do some sick things to kids.  As parents, we try to teach our children right from wrong, but they are going to make some mistakes…some with potentially life threatening consequences.  It is vital that we teach our children to not be mindless sheep, think proactively and when you get in to a bad situation…get the hell out.

There was an article in the in-forum about a kid that was sexually assaulted multiple times by a person she met electronically.  My opinion is going to be unpopular, but it is the clear truth to anyone that can look at the situation objectively.

It’s my opinion that a 13 year old kick should not have a cell phone.  They communicated through text messages…so she had access to one.  If it was a friends, then clearly the parents can’t really do anything about it…but I would bet it was her cell.

He visited her so the parents probably couldn’t do a whole lot about that.  At 13 you have to give them a bit of freedom.

She was abused multiple times on multiple occasions.  This is where her responsibility to the situation kicks in.  The parents need to instill in the child a sense that she is not to be a man’s sex toy and if it is “abuse” then she needs to say something and take an active role in preventing it.  What I am curious about is if it is abuse as per the legal definition of an older man having sex with a child, or is it abuse as in she was an unwilling participant.  The mention of the belt around her neck makes it seem like she is unwilling, but at this point are we dealing with a child who is making things up to not incur any wrath from her parents or the legal system?

I hate seeing stories like this, but we need to remember that our children are not as innocent as we’d like to believe.  They are curious and may try to initiate some of this illegal behavior.  Don’t take from this that I’m condoning what the adult did.  I think he should be drug out and shot if convicted.  I’m just saying we need to take an active part to prevent this where possible on the child’s end.

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – A Detroit Lakes man is accused of repeatedly raping a 13-year-old girl from Eagan.

According to KSTP TV of St. Paul, Dakota County prosecutors charged Seth Peterson, 28, with two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree.

According to a criminal complaint, Peterson was in contact with the girl through Yahoo instant messenger. The two also communicated by phone and by text message.

The girl told the police Peterson told her his name was Tony and he was 16 years old.

She said he visited her twice in February, once in March and once in April. She said, he sexually assaulted her during each visit and once tied a belt around her neck to force her to engage in sexual acts with him.

The girl and her parents told police Peterson had also sent harassing emails.

Police arranged for the girl to contact Peterson. Officers recorded their phone conversation. According to police, Peterson admitted to many of the allegations during the phone call

Hinder / TOAD concert

Posted by Grand Poobah On April - 28 - 2009

If you weren’t there you missed a pretty damn good show.  I was more interested in seeing Theory of a Dead Man than Hinder, and while I thought they were better…both were quite good.  I would go again to see TOAD without Hinder, but not Hinder without another band I wanted to watch.

I showed up at the Venue just a shade before 6.  I caught the tail end of happy hour 2 for 1′s.  By the time I finished my beers it was time to head inside to check out the concert.  In the hallway between the “sports bar” and the venue all the lights were off and there were a bunch of black lights.  I gave them my ticket and they put a stamp on the inside of my right wrist…the location was apparently key.  After I got stamped I walked into the venue where one dude advised me he was going to frisk me.  Read the rest of this entry »

Bears Draft

Posted by Grand Poobah On April - 27 - 2009

I don’t think it was anything spectacular, but it didn’t seem horrible either.  Obviously their big prize was cutler.  They picked up a DE in the 3rd round…a couple of receivers and some defense after that.

I still don’t think they place enough emphasis on offense.  It seems like lots of teams get caught up in the catch up game trying to build a one hit wonder instead of the maintain portion of a team.

ND Hunting Numbers

Posted by Grand Poobah On April - 27 - 2009

ND is trying to up it’s hunting numbers.  I think it’s a pretty good idea.  12 and 13 year olds should be in the field with a parent or guardian anyway.  It’s tuff to keep their interest if they can’t take part in the whole process.  The idea of taking an adult with once is interesting, maybe designed to see if a spouse is interested in hunting or something?  I still think a basic hunter’s safety course should be taken before they are allowed to hunt, even at 12 and 13.  It seems like lots of adults take safety for granted instead of actively teaching it.

BISMARCK – North Dakota lawmakers have approved a proposal intended to get more young people interested in hunting.

It says the Game and Fish Department must set up an online hunter safety training course. It’s a more convenient way to get the training a person needs to get a hunting license.

It allows 12- and 13-year-olds to hunt antlerless deer during North Dakota’s youth hunting season. Right now the minimum age is 14.

And it provides an “apprentice hunter” license for adults. They may use it to go hunting once with an experienced hunter without having safety training.

Mandan Rep. Todd Porter says the bill should help increase the number of hunters in North Dakota. It now goes to Gov. John Hoeven.
