ammo!

Posted by Grand Poobah On May - 29 - 2009

I finally found some damn ammo.  I’m O.K. as far as the .270 and .40 go, but I wanted to get some .22 for the kid.  It’s going to be pretty boring for her if she has to just sit and watch.  Kmart had none, so off to fleet farm.  I had to get some stuff there anyhow…nadda.  I head to gander mt….10 bucks/50 rounds for god damn .22 shells…I damn near bought them, but figured I’d head to wal-mart and take a chance..the ones at gander mt weren’t going anywhere.  Walmart must have just got a shipment in, I was able to get 2 bricks (550 rounds/brick) for 14 bucks each.  I went from potentially .20/round to .025/round…. ridiculous.  They had some boxes of Winchester .40 as well for 28/100…not a bad price at all.  I did suck it up and bought a box of 7.62×30 for 18 bucks.  It’s a bit much, but I figured my buddy would want to put a clip through the sks for the hell of it.  It is a fun little toy.

ammo? anyone?

A buddy has mentioned going out and shooting a couple of times, and it’s finally warm enough we can get out a bit.  We’re going to head out of town to a gun range and touch off some rounds.  I brought my SKS down from the farm, and I thought it would be kind of fun to plink around a bit.  I burnt through my last box of ammo for it this past weekend, so I decided to head out to the major retailers around here and see if a guy can pick some up.  Boy was I wrong….

Not only can I not find any 7.62×39 at a reasonable price in town, I can’t find much of anything else either.  The ammo priced affordable enough for the common man is no where to be found.  The expensive stuff is still on the shelves, and I could have picked some up for the SKS for a buck a round…that’s a bit much IMO.  I have around 500 rounds of .40 left…hopefully I can get some more of that shortly.  Even rounds for the .270 where a bit over priced….coming close to that buck a round mark.

I’m going to have to find a place online to get some ammo, the problem with that is the shipping charges.  You also have to buy some in bulk.  It wouldn’t be so bad…but that is really quite a chunk of change up front for something that’s really just a recreational activity.

FARGO – The first sobriety checkpoint of the year is scheduled for Thursday in Fargo.

Officers from the Fargo Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office and North Dakota Highway Patrol use the checkpoint to deter drunken driving.

The checkpoint is the 38th in Fargo since October 2004. Previous checkpoints have resulted in 110 DUI arrests.

In addition to the checkpoint, extra police officers will patrol the city to search specifically for impaired drivers. Their patrols and the checkpoint will be paid for by grant funding.

Farmstead

Posted by Grand Poobah On May - 26 - 2009

We took a trip to the farmstead this past holiday weekend.  It was most unrelaxing for me…but the woman seemed to have a good time.  The kid ran around non stop, and the dogs were going from dawn to dusk.  They’ve been sleeping now for about 16hrs straight.

The Sarge has proven he is the biggest baddest dog on the farm…he doesn’t cower in the corner when the folk’s big dog decides to bark.  He becomes agressive and attacks.  He doesn’t take any crap off the little dog either.  He generally didn’t start any shit either.  The only time he got pissy was when someone tried to snap at him, or when one of the other dogs walked around his food or bone…that caused a real problem.  I thought he killed the little dog at one point, but he apparently just scared the piss out of it.  The little dog litterally pissed himself when the Sarge got a hold of him.  It was a bit tense at the time, but thinking back on it…it was pretty funny.  The Sarge has also decided he doesn’t like cats either.  It’s not that he hunts cats, he wasn’t even interested in them…until the cats tried to run away.  Then it was something to chase and screw around with.  One of the cats climbed in to this brush type tree setup the folks have off to the east.  I’ve never seen a dog climb a tree…until now.  The Sarge was 1/2 way up tot he bastard before he got his little dog ass chewed… Read the rest of this entry »
