I’ve been working out for a month now, and doing two-a-days for 3 weeks.  In that time I have managed to drop 13lbs.  Overall I have lost 45lbs.  That’s pretty good, but looking at the raw numbers I’m a little disappointed.  I was hoping for a bit more of a drop when I started working out hard.  I expect the numbers will start getting less and less beginning now.  I’ve started upping the resistance on the bike and it is kicking my ass.  Hopefully that will help things along a bit.  I am satisfied with my increase in strength and of course I feel quite a bit better.

Now we enter the grind it out phase.  I’ve seen all the “quick results” I’m going to see…it’s all hard work for little to nothing to show for it for quite awhile now.  I’m not looking forward to it.

Reflection

It seems rather natural, at the end of the year, to think back over the course of the year and ponder what you have learned and where you might be going.  I think it’s important to look back from time to time over the course that your life is taking.  “Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it” is a pretty cliche line, but I believe it’s quite true.  People seem to repeat the same mistakes over and over again but don’t seem to actually learn anything from them and take steps to prevent them from reoccurring.  Then there are the people that spend so much time looking backwards and lamenting the mistakes that they cannot move forward.  There is no point pouting or whining about what you’ve screwed up or lamenting your situation…it is what it is, focus on how to improve your station in life and power forward.  There are no quick fixes, and while we can’t just wake up and decide to be rich…we can certainly take steps to improve ourselves and become more satisfied with life.  Being both the end of a year and the end of a decade, it seems reasonable to think about the past 10 years… Read the rest of this entry »

United Airlines and Antlers

Posted by Grand Poobah On December - 30 - 2009

This is an example of the stupid shit the NRA spends their time on…why wouldn’t someone with a trophy worth bringing home take the time to pack it properly so it doesn’t get damaged, then ship it via some company that specializes in shipping shit?  Such a waste of fucking time…

Fairfax, Va. – After months of negotiations, the National Rifle Association and Safari Club International are proud to announce a positive change in the antler and animal horn policy for United Airlines.

“We’d like to thank United for their attention to this matter and the commitment they’ve shown to their customers who use the airline when traveling to hunting excursions,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director for NRA-ILA. “For more than a year, hunters were prohibited from transporting many types of trophies in checked baggage on United Airlines flights, but this move will remove that ban.”

United Airlines published new packaging and cleaning requirements for antlers and animal horns to ensure their safe, clean transport. Also, the new language provides information on the size of antlers and animal horns United can accept based on the type of aircraft being flown and the special handling fee.

“Transporting antlers and animal horns in a safe, efficient manner is the goal of NRA, SCI and United Airlines,” concluded Cox. “Resolving this issue and providing a benefit to traveling hunters is a great victory for all parties involved.”

James Sullivan, the drummer for the Huntington Beach rock band Avenged Sevenfold, died on Monday, according to Orange County authorities.

The cause of death is still under investigation. Sullivan, 28, was found unresponsive inside his home.

“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan,” band members posted in a statement on the group’s official Web site. “Jimmy was not only one of the world’s best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy’s family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

News of Sullivan’s death prompted an outpouring of grief on social media sites as well as on the band’s official Web site.

“I cant believe it..The Rev is gone..R.I.P. Jimmy Sullivan..im crying so hard right now. I think Im in complete shock,” a fan with the handle Star888Star posted on Twitter this morning.

The group, which blended hard rock with hard-core punk, was named Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2006.
